Library and Information
The main objective of the information programme is to maintain ADIC as an innovative and scientific resource centre in drug prevention nationally, regionally and internationally.
The information programme collate and disseminate scientific evi¬dence based information on prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in the forms of news, concepts, etc. Analyzed information and data using the latest information are disseminated to several structures via special communication systems.
Apart from being a prominent information resource provider for academics and the general public in the field of drug prevention this programme also acts as an effective trainer to the clients who visit the information unit which is well known as the ADIC Library; specially for university students and higher education followers who visit in search of information for their thesis and assignments. In addition the Information programme provides services to University students, Researchers, Post Graduate students, doctors and other professionals.
Promoting User friendly services
The Information unit emphasized its need on promoting innovative, quality services while adhering to the highest professional standards and the principles of being user-friendly, effective, efficient approaches. New prevention aids in the form of trailer made audio – visual and printed training materials are developed, and this is made available to a large number for organizations and individuals who actively carried out awareness to communities. Apart from these facilities we provide the e-library facilities to as a leading facilitator of drug prevention.
For clients who find it difficult to visit the ADIC Library to get information, the required information is e-mailed or posted as a special service by the Information programme. User friendly information disseminating services such as e-news and E- mails, phone calls and video calls via internet is also available.
Information programme carry out awareness meetings to share latest information and data and to update the staff and volunteers in new knowledge concerning prevention.
Link with National and International Library Networks
Our Library hosts one of the best compilations of information in the South Asia region, with a fully computerized data base providing easy access to an extensive collection. ADIC library is a member of the Health Literature Library and Information Services net work Sri Lanka [HELLIS] and is therefore linked to the health library net work. We are connected to the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) International Federation of Library Association – (IFLA) and Commonwealth Library Association (COMLA) to provide our services nationally and internationally.
We are linked to the National Library of Sri Lanka and have developed a public library network island wide. We also share information with university libraries and school libraries. Through these networks, events at national and local exhibitions, literature competitions and other functions are designed and informed to the public.
