The primary objective of the Human Development Programme is the capacity building of the people within and outside the organization to engage in its activities professionally, effectively, freely and happily. To this end the Human Development Programme has developed training materials, organized workshops and training programmes, developed programmes with other NGO’s and carried out campaigns to counter the harmful impacts of the alcohol and tobacco industries.

ALCOHOL AND DRUG INFORMATION CENTRE :

ADIC has been recognized as a local and International resource centre on Drug Demand Reduction. Apart from training conducted locally, there have been international trainings such as; Programmes in collaboration with PDP Cambodia, and Social Services School – Maldives. There are more programmes to be implemented in the future.

ADIC has also participated in international conferences. Participation is based as the following: as trainers, as resource persons and as experts. The international experiences and exposure have contributed to the total development of the organization.

Marketing of Programmes
Programmes are also in the process of been marketed to other NGOO and CBOO to compensate the immense needs for the Drug Demand Reduction Programme. With the increase on CBOO and NGOO after the Tsunami destructions, many projects have identified alcohol and tobacco as a problem. The initiative of many organizations to tackle Alcohol and Tobacco issues has created a demand for ADIC Programmes. The increase in demand for such programmes and with few resource persons, ADIC is in the process of designing out various mechanisms to have distance mode resource persons within various other CBOO and NGOO in their respective areas, such as micro credit, gender, poverty, peace building and democracy.

Working on Experimental Models
As an experimental model we have worked with several NGOO and CBOO, with manuals developed for specific target interventions. In every model our main emphasis of the organization has been that interventions to be cost effective.

There were also experimental trainings carried out in 2006 based on Health promotional Approaches. These trainings were of 5 days residential programmes where the particular participants gained an in-depth knowledge on alcohol and tobacco prevention formally and informally within the organization. The main objective of this programme was to develop a capable volunteer team, who would work on alcohol and tobacco preventions within their organizations and their regions. The participants were chosen from a web link.

Restructuring of the Organization
The Human Development Programme consists of the Human Development and Organizational Development. The restructuring emphasized the need for the following new divisions of the organization, such as; School, Women, Plantations.

Day to day resolving of administrative and technical issues has been a core part of the Human Development Programme. These issues are usually resolved with the support of the Executive Director and the Management.

Development of new volunteers
The development of new volunteer is crucial as youth leaders and trainers in order to carry out prevention programmes in the future. School leavers and youth were offered trainings in prevention where the programmes focused on providing knowledge on various substances and their impact, especially focusing on the chemical impact as against the learned impact. Finally these volunteers were given assignments to further test their prevention knowledge and skills.
